Cpl. Punishment

Several months back, I was scrolling through Ebay and discovered a lower buttpack named to a “Lt. Mitchell”. The description on Ebay said that the pack belonged to a family friend who served in Vietnam. I noticed the seller’s other items were special forces booklets and manuals, so I messaged the seller to ask about who the veteran was.

As it turns out, the items belonged to retired Maj. A l b e r t Mitchell. I bought the listed items and reached out to the seller on facebook. The seller was incredibly friendly and noted that their husband had many other items from the veteran, and that the veteran was a neighbor for 20 years and did not have any family interested in his service. Among the other items the seller had was a Randall model 1-7 made in the early 1960’s. It is engraved with the veteran’s name.

I began researching the veteran and discovered he completed 3 tours in Vietnam. His first tour was in 1963-1964 with the 5th SFG, although I know nothing else about this tour. His second tour he was the S-2 for B-35 (Hiep Hoa/Duc Hoa), C-3 (Co A), 5th SFGA 1966-1967, and then the C-3 LNO to the 25th ID. His final tour was in 1969 with Project 404 in Thailand.

I hope you all enjoy seeing this fantastically rare grouping!

Enjoy!

Impressive grouping!

“Col” Martha Ray is the only woman to be buried in the Special Forces Cemetery at Ft. Bragg (her uniform, etc. is in one of the museum at Ft. Bragg).

Where is the Special Forces Cemetery located on Fort Bragg?

According to this she’s buried in the Main Post Cemetery.

I never heard of a Special Forces Cemetery at FT Bragg, just the main post cemetery where she's buried. Met her when I was an instructor at Camp Mackall around 83'-84'-ish time frame. SKIP

Great grouping. A real once in a lifetime find!

I don't have a VN Randall, mine are from the '80's, but I do have a VN era rifle green beret I could use some help with.

I am looking for any information on the named owner.

Please post any info on that thread so as not to hijack this one. If you need the complete SSN please PM.
