Cpl. Punishment

Hello all,

While I have collected WWII items for many years, I am relatively new to Vietnam War collecting. I have had some incredible luck in my pursuit of Vietnam War artifacts, and this group I am sharing below is an example of this extraordinary luck.

Several months back, I was approached by a collector who offered to sell me a fantastic set of tiger stripe fatigues belonging to a member of C 2/47 Mechanized Infantry. I have been after a set of ID’d tiger stripes since I first started collecting Vietnam, and I knew upon seeing this set that I could not let this pass by.

After receiving the fatigues, it was a passion of mine to begin tracking down the veteran. This task was not easy, and after an immense amount of luck and some guessing, I was put in contact with the veteran.

The vet and I conversed over a few weeks and he congradulated me for graduating college, he then told me he had a package in the mail for my graduation present. When the package arrived, I was completely blown away by what I found inside. The provenance with this group is unreal and unparalleled by any other groupings I have seen from Vietnam.

I hope you all enjoy this group as much as I do. The veteran did ask me to maintain these items in my collection, and I am happy to oblige, and integrate these artifacts into my military displays.

Enjoy!

Note: the peace sign pendant and silver friendship bracelet are the same being work by the veteran in a picture dated December 24, 1969.

The tour jacket is also exactly as the veteran is wearing it in the photo dated January 10, 1970, 7 months before his DEROS date.

Thank you! It was enlightening for me to see a poncho tour jacket being worn overseas before the end of the man’s tour. Often, I find these tour jackets were made at the end of the tour and weren’t worn overseas if any at all. To see that a tour jacket was made halfway through his tour, and he wore it, is an amzing discovery. The peovenance with the pictures and his sticky-note notes about each item are priceless! He sadly passed away a few months ago; I feel particularly honored to share his story!
