Bob Hudson Posted June 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2021 Yesterday I went to an estate sale at the home of someone who was an old school commercial graphic artist (pre-digital). The garage had piles of old sketches, paintings and other artwork, some of it for well-known brands. In one pile was this 20-inch tall portrait signed by Col Greg Pappy Boyington. It appears to be a charcoal drawing based on a photo of Boyington. This is actually a photo of the the charcoal piece and it is in bad shape, with creases -deep folds - every few inches. I'd guess it was rolled up and something was piled on top of it, crushing it. At some point it was unfolded and roughly taped to a large pad of tracing paper. The inscription was written in green ink and it looks like someone traced over much of it with black ink. It reads: "To Nick with thanks for a great favor Sincerely, Col Greg 'Pappy' Boyington
