hink441 Posted June 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2021 Recently obtained this USS Bagley rivet hammer used in the keel laying ceremony in 1935 at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth Virginia. I also found some pictures of the actual keel laying ceremony with two elderly gentlemen with hammers in hand. My hammer has the name A J Lancaster on one side. Don’t know anything about Mr Lancaster but he has to be one of the two men in the picture. The USS Bagley has an interesting history and was at Pearl Harbor during the attack. She is credited with 6 aircraft kills during the attack. She is also listed as one of the first USN ships to return fire on the Japanese aircraft. Thanks for looking.
