To remember the 77th anniversary of the Normandy Invasion today, I thought I would share my original copy of General Eisenhower's "D-DAY" letter issued to all invading troops just prior to them heading for the French coastline to crack through Hitler's Atlantic Wall on June 6th, 1944.

 

Many people don't realize that Gen. Eisenhower also had a second "failure" letter drafted that was to be issued to troops in case the invasion couldn't crack this wall and where he took full responsibility for the defeat. Let's all be glad that didn't become the "D-DAY" letter!

Excellent Post!

Thousands of these were printed and distributed, likely a small percentage exist today.  Here is a facsimile of the "failure"  letter as related to by eaglerunner88:
