Rugged Style War Rome, WW2-Era American Military Jackets from the Eternal City, by Mirko Di Giovanni, Andrea Ventura, Photographs by David Petrini

This new book takes a very different approach from anything seen previously. It provides an overview of US military jackets from WW2 and includes all branches of service with focus on how they are worn today in the City of Rome, Italy. This work appears to be targeted as a fashion or vintage clothing book as opposed to a military collector’s reference. The book is entirely driven by photographs, with very little text. The captions are in English, while the Introduction and the beginning of each chapter are in English and Japanese text.

While not a complete reference, there is a large variety of material. The jackets pictured are in various stages of condition, some with artwork and some clean examples. There is no detailed history of use or development, so if that is your expectation, you will be disappointed. If you want a collection of very nice photos and basic identification of a large variety of US WW2 jackets, then this may be for you. The photo quality is excellent and in full color.

The last 138 pages (Chapter 5) are photos of a number of businessmen in Rome, wearing the jackets as fashion items. These are not reenactors, but rather clothing enthusiasts in everyday wear. The book is a total of 303 pages, so this is a significant section of the book.

Interesting. So for clarification, does this book only cover flight jackets, or other uniforms as well, such as an Army 4 pocket blouse, or Ike jacket, or tanker's jacket?

Thanks,

Steve
