ClintEastwood Posted June 3, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2021 I’ve noticed on this jacket there is a set of ARVN wings on an American jacket? I understand ARVN and US worried together but I always thought their patches and stuff were different. Does anyone have an explanation for this? triplecanopy Posted June 3, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 3, 2021 Airborne units sometimes have the opportunity to work with host nation airborne forces while in their country. During large overseas exercises these events often include a wings exchange after a combined parachute jump. When foreign wings are awarded to US Army personnel, they would be worn above the right pocket as shown in your photo. Your jungle fatigue jacket is an early one with shoulder loops and exposed pocket buttons and has pre-1968 color patches. So with just what I can see from the photo it looks like the original owner had some contact with a Vietnamese Airborne unit or was an advisor on on previous tour. Sometimes honorary awards were made to some units although they are not supposed to be worn on the uniform. After 1984-85, the Army changed regulations regarding wear of foreign awards on fatigue uniforms. They are no longer authorized for wear on combat uniforms, only dress and mess dress attire.
