Had bought the larger one from a forum member several years ago and was surprised to find it also came in a smaller version recently. I imagine given the weight of the larger frame it took up a lot of room in a seabag. Btw these are not sterling silver, but just finished to look that way

Beautiful pieces...and the seated portrait is not too shabby, either

Thanks guys! Always amazed at how much Shanghai, Peking, and Tientsin tailored their products to sell to the Marines. Agree Brig...cool pix, but is it an officer or NCO? It is clearly earlier then the frame

NCO...that's an NCO sword and a P1908 cap emblem, plus no collars

Brig thanks! But where are the stripes?

Did they wear them in dress whites? I see no sign of an officer rank on the shoulders, either.

I'm pretty certain he's enlisted. Worse case maybe he was a private just posing with a buddy's sword for the look of the portrait

Brig I thought the enlisted wore whites until 1912....logic dictates he is enlisted but IDK
