WVsubvet Posted May 27, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 27, 2021 Today’s mail call yielded a nice set of officer whites from the Ship’s Service Store of Submarine Base Pearl Harbor. Inside the name Scott A.W. is hand written along with S-4145 ink stamps in both jacket and trousers. Any assistance in identifying this officer is greatly appreciated! I hope to obtain accurate ribbons and I’ve already applied badges where the shadow and holes from those previous remain. -Joshua In memory of all on eternal patrol

Josh B. Posted May 28, 2021 Share #3 Posted May 28, 2021 I could not find any A. W. Scott's in my submarine force rosters spanning 1945-47. According to my 1945 USN and 1944 USNR Commissioned and Warrant Officer directories, I could only find 4 A. W Scotts... none were LtCDR in those years. Remember than any navy officer could have purchased their uniforms from the service stores at PH, not just submariners. I've seen other uniforms with these labels where the original owner could not be traced back to the submarine force. USN 36076 Scott, Adolphus W. CE 20380 Scott, Albert W. LtJG USNR 277125 Scott, Alexis W LtJG 209797 Scott, Allen W Lt

This morning I was unexpectedly contacted by a step grandson of the man in question that sold this uniform on eBay in 1997 after a relative kept all rank and awards. It belonged to CWO Adolphus Wayne Scott, who you had found during your search. He enlisted in August 1930 as an electricians mate and retired in August 1957. At some point during the 24 years this uniform was passed around someone made an assumption that because it was tailored at Sub Base PH the uniform was that of a submariner and applied badges which left the shadows. Although I only collect submarine items his career is interesting. He became Shellback aboard USS Wasp CV-7 and survived her sinking.
