Marchville1918

I can say that the leather scabbard is a rework of the very early scabbards that originally had the hanger like the Krag Bayonet and which were replaced by the 1910 cloth over wood scabbard. The bayonet looks like an original finish very nice late date. Just as they kept making Springfield 03 rifles after the war so too the bayonets. not sure when they stopped but 1922 must be one of the last.

Thanks for the information, the scabbard is marked R.I.A.1907 on the back and R.I.A.1921 on the front.

As. stated the scabbard was altered ( legiti}   to conform to the new pattern.  A very nice and becoming  blade, becoming scarcer by the day

The bayonet was also parkerized from bright in the 1940-1941 time frame. In the book "From Here to Eternity" the author refers to the men in Hawaii turning in their polished bayonets for "black" ones.
