ilikeike Posted May 26, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2021 Hi guys, Im 16, and I found this tunic in a pile of lots of other items I cleaned out of apartment, and I'm not sure what it is. I have been informed that It is USMC, spanish american war or WW1. If anyone knows the model, when its from, and about what this could be worth, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you! US Victory Museum Posted May 31, 2021 Share #6 Posted May 31, 2021 I'm going to assert that the coat is POST 1915, as it lacks the openings in the skirt that is found on the earlier coats. It is always hazardous to try to identify an article of clothing by its buttons when they are removable, as earlier style buttons can be added by unscrupulous sellers; on the other hand, it is also possible that these buttons were still available in stock and are original to the coat. Nevertheless, an artifact must be examined as a whole. See attached image for the skirt openings (one per side) I am describing. Msn
BEAST Posted May 31, 2021 Share #7 Posted May 31, 2021 That is a very nice find. There are a few good threads on the USMC khaki coat if you search. Here is one thread:

Dirk Posted May 31, 2021 Share #9 Posted May 31, 2021 Victory always impressed by your knowledge on khaki and have learned a great deal from you. My, what I am calling a 1904 pattern, looks exactly like the above, marked to a Legation Guard who served in Peking 1905-06. Same closed rear w/out flap or side vents. Of course mine should have bronzed domed buttons, but I have photos of men of this Detachment still wearing brass domed buttons into 1906....if we can get a name on the coat above we can nail it down perhaps.
