What is this helmet?

I acquired this from a large collection and I have no clue what it is. Does anyone have any idea? The helmet is made from a material just like a high pressure M1 liner. It is not steal. I do not know if this is just a liner or an entire helmet. The webbing inside looks US or a European clone. The front has a small slotted hole that something may have been attached to. There was a tag on it saying, “Japanese movie prop helmet?”, but I doubt that’s what it is. Any ideas?

Wow that would be my guess, one of several kinds made probably, the slot being for the Imperial Star,a mock up star of course,  probably has been repainted though, the outside at least.

Here's a one, similarly looking from the Halls of Montezuma 1951, though can't see if it has rivets,

Ones from the early wartime movies seem to be solid with no rivets or no star, if a star then painted on, but damned if I don't recall seeing one of these movies where the Japanese helmet was a prop with rivets, I'll have to look around.

These from the Fighting Seabees.

And here from Wake Island.

The Rooster

It sure does have what looks like the same shinny finish as the one in that still from Halls of Montezuma 1951.

It’s not an early  French M51 liner. I tried that and compared it to one. This one has much more of a flare all around the bottom edge. There is a very small raised “3” on the inside right at crown of the helmet. That is the only marking I can find. All the metal hardware on the inside is rectangular in shape, like early WW2, not diamond shape as in later WW2 US.
