Anyone ever seen a snap in liner like this before? has snaps so it reminded me of the Hawley liners, but it only has one row of snaps and not two. It is khaki HBT cotton type fabric. No markings at all.

Burning Hazard

My one and only Hawley set with early M1 (Heat Stamp 61C) that has cast buckles.

Only thing missing the the leather liner chinstrap.

Man it is craaaazy how fragile these Hawley liners are; I'm not surprised the war department pulled them out of service so quickly.

The Rooster

Thats a nice one !

Mine is the same way. missing the chin strap.

Yea, somewhat fragile to begin with,

and 80 years down the road... more so.

Mine is kept in a box, I'm so paranoid about it.

You know Rooster sometimes when I see these Hawley liners and the lousy condition most are in, makes me wonder if the worst of them weren't trashed by kids playing army in the days gone by, these would get messed up way faster then your standard WWII/50s Liners right.

Which makes me think of a question while I was writing above in regards to the life of the Hawley liners. We all know that from time to time the Uniform of the Day back then till the 80s calls for the helmet liner to be worn by itself, my pondering was if and when the Hawley one was worn by itself how it fared in the rain, for prolonged periods of course, did it affect the integrity of the strength of the liner,, like it became extra soft, and took a long to to dry etc, affect its shape?

Here are a couple of mine - A USMC "Red Patcher" and Colonel George Humbert's (Coastal Artillery) fixed bail and Hawley liner.

The red patcher is beautiful. Is it possible to show a close up of the patch on the Hawley liner? Is the patch on the the rear of the shell and liner as well?

Really nice.

Pics as requested.  FYI, I was a "Red Patcher" when I first arrived in Vietnam.  My avatar shows me (far left) on my third day in country with 3rd Shore Party Bn. shortly before going on my first LP outside the wire on 5/13/66.  I was one frightened 18 year-old.  A week later, I was sent to MP Co., 3rd Marine Division.
