WW2 era US bolt pouch

I got these two US army bolt pouches. I am not sure where these where held during ww2. I have a feeling it was in a haversack but could be wrong. Please tell me where the soldiers would put these pouches. Thank you.

Yes this is for a machine gun, but do you know where would they keep these pouches in? Like in a haversack or something?

No I do not. I'd guess it would all depend on what pack or bag the MG crew member in change of carrying a bolt/spare bolt was utilizing at the time they were handling their gun, but that's just a guess.
