Centurion1982 Posted May 17, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 17, 2021 I have recently acquired a piece of a crashed B-17F Flying Fortress. The piece was fished from the river were it crashed on June 22, 1943. The crash location is Opheusden, The Netherlands. The USAAF registration number of the plane is: 42-5880 What part of the plane is this? Ribs from the wing? What is the hinge on the side? Thanks, Marcel

manayunkman Posted May 18, 2021 Share #3 Posted May 18, 2021 Could be a piece of flap?
M1Garandy Posted May 18, 2021 Share #4 Posted May 18, 2021 Looks like a chunk of the wing spar, or of a wing rib as the construction is similar.

Peace Posted January 4, 2022 Share #6 Posted January 4, 2022 Hi all, 64-1424-505 is part of the wing spar assembly, located outboard front. The drawing number of the assembly is actually 64-1424, with 505 as a part of it. A vast majority of parts on the B-17 was marked with the assembly number or parts number, sometimes stamped, but often marked in purple or black ink, as is the case here. In the attached file you can see item number
Centurion1982 Posted January 4, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted January 4, 2022 Thanks a lot for this information! Do you have the comple drawing? So I can see where it is positioned on the wing? Thanks!
