AlexeiK Posted June 6 Share #360 Posted June 6 62nd Troop Carrier Squadron "Blue Barons" (62nd Airlift Squadron), 314th Troop Carrier Wings (Sewart AFB, Tennessee). Japanese-made Vulcan. Acc. to Wiki, the 62nd Squadron was deployed to Japan for combat operations in 1950 for the Korean War and then returned to the United States in 1954. In the light of Japanese provenance, should it be dated back to the Korean War? The 62nd Squadron’s insignia has changed several times and it should be a clue, but I failed to find the detailed history of the logo.

Initially I suspected that Japanese provenance indicates that the lighter was bought in Japan. But you've explained me in another thread that Japanese-made Zippo-like lighters were widely imported in US.

I'm in the process of compiling a data base on Japanese-made base stamps and how they can be applied to dating. Unit research is the key. Don't hold your breath on the data base as real life tends to intrude on my time!
