Derf Posted May 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2021 Hello everyone i'm interesting about to but my first american helmet. A man propose me to buy this one. Is it a good ww2 Era helmet? For you all the helmet is good ? I Know it's a Front seam, fixe bail found like that at Malmedy. Thanks a lot for your answer.
iron bender Posted May 13, 2021 Share #2 Posted May 13, 2021 Yes. Nice looking WW2 rig in what appears to be original condition (finish/paint/etc.). Chinstraps could be replacements, better pics would help
dmar836 Posted May 13, 2021 Share #3 Posted May 13, 2021 The net and inexpensive Carlisle bandage and dust goggles have obviously been added to up the appeal and are not how most collectors would display an authentic M-1. If there is a story about Malmedy in the sale I would be extra cautious just out of principle. Those are often questionable sellers and I wouldn't pay a penny more for that story. There are many reasons why that helmet was unlikely known to be there. "Buy the steak, not the sizzle". Pay only for a nice WWII fixed bail M-

Derf Posted May 13, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted May 13, 2021 Ok ok thanks for your answer so this is an original M1 for you and i must pay the Price of it only. But what is a good Price for this helmet for you?
CavalryCombatant Posted May 13, 2021 Share #6 Posted May 13, 2021 Good looking lid, IMO. I don’t see any major problems. 2 hours ago, Derf said: Ok ok thanks for your answer so this is an original M1 for you and i must pay the Price of it only. But what is a good Price for this helmet for you? Assuming the liner chinstrap is USGI, you might expect to pay in the $250 - $300 range, from a retailer, give or take a bit. I personally would aim in the $150-$225 range if I were to buy it. If it were mine, I’d take off the band and the first aid kit, the net with the dust goggles looks pretty neat. Nickman983 Posted May 14, 2021 Share #7 Posted May 14, 2021 At first glance nothing jumps out to me. As others have stated, the first aid kit, goggles, and net have been added to spice up the helmet. The net on its own can be worth a little since it has the Dennison tag. There's debate around whether they're original tags or added to surplus nets post war but they seem to go for $20-$30 on their own. If you pick it up I would remove the goggles and med kit as they're a bit much. If you can get the netting to fit right I don't see any problem with that. For a plain jane set like this I don't see anything wrong with displaying it with an original net, especially if you have other fairly plain helmets on display. Paddyd00 Posted May 15, 2021 Share #8 Posted May 15, 2021 Base helmet, Liner and net look nice but pictures are kind of close and claustrophobic. I would immediately remove all the tchotchkes from the helmet. Looks like someone was trying to replicate a Vietnam era style M1 and how soldiers wore them then but on a WWII lid for some reason. Derf Posted May 15, 2021 Author Share #9 Posted May 15, 2021 Ok Guys, thanks a lot for your answer. If you have this helmet for 250-300$ in USA, in Europe it's more 500-600$. The difference is so Big. And i don't want to pay the double. I will try to reduce the Price 🤞
