yokota57 Posted May 12, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted May 12, 2021 Here is a pic of my Japanese "Vulcan" VMF-115 lighter from later in the '50s. Of course Kastauffer's "Zogan" was much more expensive in the day compared to a "Vulcan", "Penguin" or "Wellington". These would have been less than $1. at the PX//BX or ships store. The Amitas were probably $10. to $20., a fortune in those days!
Matt-M Posted May 23, 2021 Share #7 Posted May 23, 2021 What is a "Zogan" lighter?
yokota57 Posted May 23, 2021 Author Share #8 Posted May 23, 2021 "Zogan" is the Japanese word for what is known in the Western world as "Damascene". Damascene is the process of inlaying/fitting of gold and silver into an oxidized steel base. The Japanese firm "Amita" was/is the largest producer of these items. Look closely at the photo of the wood box and paper and you will see they use the term "Damascene" for their English speaking customers. Thanks for the question. **I think damascene may have its own Wiki page. Check it out.
