FlyNavy02 Posted May 12, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2021 Need help to identify this brooch for a post-Civil War veteran badge. Paper tag with "CW Cavalry Corps design" was written by the late Norn Flayderman. The back has a T-bar pin with a heavy "C" wire catch. There is a bar on the reverse holding the remnants of a RWB flag ribbon similar to those seen on GAR member badges so perhaps it is for a GAR post or reunion badge. Hoping someone can post an image of the complete badge. Thanks for looking. Jay
KevinBeyer Posted May 20, 2021 Share #2 Posted May 20, 2021 While I am not 100% certain, this design is similar to the very early Sons of Union Veterans membership badges from the New York area. Robert Wolz has a section in his book, Grand Army Men, that talks about them. This is one of many different examples, but you can see the cannon, the crossed rifles and swords, and the sun rays are all similar to your badge.
