Grandfather in law brought back Nazi armband, some sort of insignia and an older Iron Cross.

The insignia are all in a strip and I'm assuming were meant to be cut off and sewn to a uniform.

The strip of cloth awards was for the Nazi "DRL" which was an organization for physical fitness. I believe those would have been awarded and sewn on to a gym type uniform.
