I hope your day went well. This is an interesting helmet, half the helmet is painted black. Any ideas on this interesting paint job? Thanks guys.

That's an odd one. I don't know the significance but it looks to be a post war addition

Valspar Paints used these to show their paint for in store displays.  They show up from time to time on eBay with the original labels intact.

Thanks, I’ve wondered if the intent was to sell paint for the purpose of decorating helmets after the war.

I always thought they were probably sales samples for automotive finishes or the like.
