Boy Howdy

I found these dog tags, still together on a chain.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I posted these last month but in the wrong forum.

Hoping to have better luck here.

Marine Corps Muster Rolls

I believe he enlisted 31 Dec 1941 and was in Special Weapons Group, Ninth Defense Battalion, Fleet Marine Force.  In Oct. 1944 it showed him in the Light AA Group, Ninth AAA Battalion, Reinforced FMF.

This man's service number indicates this is a 1953 to 1965 issue. Not a WW2 vet.

USMC service number 1 million was issued in 1944.

I think I remember seeing more than one James C. Branham when I looked at the muster rolls but wasn't able to find one that showed that service number.  I've noticed that on the Marine Corps Muster Rolls they very often don't show the person's service number which sometimes makes it hard to determine the right one.  My mistake on the WW2 guy in this case.  Sorry.

Looking through some muster rolls, I'm not finding a J Branham with that number. However, only USMC MRs through 1958 have been digitized, so he may be on the last half of the service era that these tags could be from. Is this something you could try sending a request in to St. Louis for?

Hi Boy Howdy!

WOW! These belonged to my grandfather James Cogar Branham II! My father James Cogar Branham III would love to have them. Can you please email me? [email protected]

Thank you!!

Best,

Susan

My dad said his military service number is 56 729 528. Hard to believe there is someone out there with the same name! The mystery continues...
