M65 with M51 liner help

A friend of mine who pulled some stuff out of a relatives attic gave this to me today. I don’t know much of anything about field jackets but it seems like a m65 but with an early label and a m51 liner? It’s basically mint aside from a few small stains from storage. It has a thin nylon hood in the collar as well as the button holes for another outer hood which I don’t have. The liner button holes line up with the buttons on the inside of the jacket but there are more holes in the liner than buttons on the jacket. The label has no prefix only a contract number. Could this be an early/transitional m65 or is this a civilian market jacket? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Also what look to be like some sort of markings for reference on where to place the zipper during manufacturing?

it is anM65 with a 51 liner which isnt that uncommon as the liners were in the system for many years. Looks dated 1953 with a pattern date of April of 53. The tag is a "cutter" tag which was placed on garments when manufactured. Like a quality control tag/inspection tag. The chalk lines are as you state done for the placement of the zipper when manufactured.

Thanks. Is there a way to date it from the contract number in the label? It has no prefix or two number date code which is why I thought it might be early.

And why I thought the m51 liner might belong in the jacket rather than something someone put in later

What I mean to say is the tag on the shell has no date only a contract number which I know sometime on other items indicates an early 60’s or so date. That coupled with the m51 liner was why I thought it might be a really early m65. I wouldn’t think that the shell was made in 1953 given it’s an m65 shell. So I was wondering if it’s a 1965 or so shell with a 1953 liner?

It's a late 60s made M65 shell.  The older liners were re-issued, and have no relation to the shell being early. The first M65 field jackets lack epaulets.

Awesome. There you have it. Thank you. I tried to find info on line about dating based on labels and contract numbers didn’t think to look into the differences in the different period jackets themselves.

Does anyone know what a good condition unused jacket like this might be worth? It was given to me by a friend who is moving after getting it from another relative and I don’t really much space for it either. eBay seems to be all over the place.
