Is this Air Service Signal Corps dogtag real?

I believe it to be but wanted to double check before I tried to sell it. I didn't know if it was common to write ASSC on one side and Air Service on the other side. I was not able to find anything on Herman L Heise so that didn't help any. I guess the area that was deleted makes me nervous. I can't say any of it looks recently done but I don't know how hard it is to fake either.
