Cpl. Punishment Posted April 30, 2021 #1 Posted April 30, 2021 Hello all, I recently picked up this interesting grouping from Facebook marketplace. The liberating veteran was Byron Boose of Dayton, Ohio and served in Co. A, 20th Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Division. This gentleman was a silver star recipient, although I cannot find out any information about this. I believe he is mentioned in the 6th Infantry unit history book. I am unsure which man in the photos Boose is. As I found this group, the medals were listed by themselves for a price I was not happy with. I messaged the seller and asked if there was anything else of the group to which they responded with pictures of the Japanese flag and multiple period photos of the veteran overseas. One of these photos featured a Japanese flag. At first I dismissed this, and then realized that the signatures on the flag matched the photo! I was enamored by this discovery and couldn’t buy the group fast enough! The veteran ended up reenlisting in the late 50’s/early 60’s in the Ohio National Guard. Many of the ribbons and CIB are from this period, however, the silver star DI’s and bronze star are WWII period. I had the flag translated by Dan King, and was able to find that the Japanese soldier who owned this flag was Zenichi Mochizuki from the village of Ojimamura Japan. The flag is signed by many other family members and 77 other townspeople. I wish I could find out more about this man! I would guess the flag was captured in the Philippines, however, this is just a guess. I hope you all enjoy seeing this group as much as I do!
