Vietnam Navy captain liner - legit?

Just picked up this liner for cheap, seller had it advertised as “vintage US army helmet and liner.” My impression based on the paint color and “CAPTAIN” stenciled across the front is that this is a Navy liner, belonging to a ship captain. Sweatband is dated 1971. Considering how far off the seller’s description was, if it’s a fake or something other than my conclusion, it wasn’t willful on their part. I got it cheap enough that no matter what, it’s a nice Vietnam liner for the price. But, thoughts on whether I’m correct in it being a ship CO’s lid?

Yes. As you said. Not an expensive item for a forgery. Interesting one. Never seen that kind of cartoony font before. Cool
