I saw this listing on eBay but don’t know enough about M1’s. This one kinda raises some flags to me with the buy it now deal.

I really would like to add a helmet with rank insignia on it to my collection.

my guess is this not the one to add but wanted to ask.

The helmet itself is either a late-war McCord or post-war based in just the rim alone.

I don't know much about the Parish or Ingersoll helmets but the divots on the rear seam match late or post-war McCord helmets.

You might keep an eye on the sales section of the forum, they pop up every once in awhile.

I’ve been trying to, so far I’ve been too slow.

To me (and I suspect most collectors), for it to be considered a “WW2 helmet” it needs to have original sewn-on straps, either OD green (late) or preferably the earlier OD3 khaki. I wouldn’t call this one a WW2 helmet, even if it was a front seam. Buckle on straps with green hardware appeared in 1951, black buckles in 1961, and the angled clip-on straps in 1973.

Nowhere near wwii, but I suspect it’s legit.  I’ve seen similar examples from the early to mid 1960’s, which the chinstraps would seem to agree with.

I’d wait for a more qualified source to get better advice, but I wouldn’t rule this one out.

Meant to add that it’s a parade helmet, and not a combat helmet.

The black clips and decals put it in the 1960s.

The Captain’s helmet is overpriced for a swivel.

The bars look weird but they could be correct, I say that because the cork was removed in a square shape behind them.

Im not qualified to determine whether the bars are fake or not but if they are then the whole paint job is fake too.

Ive had a similar 3rd Id from early 60s. It was a refurb front seam. Stripped of original cork texture and a glossy green shiny parade finish applied. Had early type post war decals.

I like the captain helmet. Looks legit to me w no flags. But as mentioned above. Too expensive for a swivel.

Thanks for the info. The captains helmet sold a week ago or so. I did not got it.

I don’t plan on bidding on the 3rd infantry helmet.

i really need to invest in some good research books as pinned in the threads above.

thanks everyone for the responses!
