Wanna see a virtually unissued early M1

Posted this on WAF years ago when I got it, but this is the first time I've dug it out since then. Picked it up in a pickle shop (lol) in Bandera TX for $50. I need to find an original liner chinstrap for it though as that's the only broken bit.f3a3929705104d0892cbd630bc3ab94f.jpg43f91ecbed168f7195ba82abc1f7cdb2.jpgdd77f8a2cdd92992aacc6733d80b1452.jpg0d3a2d6a93d041e357d475b7d37527ca.jpg53570aa721e679d4e7c6b684429d8a13.jpg608d0daa2446dffec38dcc1db14dabbe.jpg6b30d18531d3b629dc483db50511a156.jpga17f365e6f05f298453cbcbcb598ffe5.jpg0296e9c2f25116ff3df8ab9c8ac0ba9f.jpg

I hate to be ‘that guy’, but it looks like a re-paint from the pics, as the color is more of a lime green (could be camera?).

Early shell, no question.

No worries, I think it's just camera settings. Just took this in different lighting. The other pics do seem super bright.43d2d99625b3f4cd7f7a5af7dddb4cd5.jpg4f8e3862da913a6356c98011c4a4fcde.jpg

Purdy!   I've fixed those broken straps before, if all the leather is there-just broken, by taking a one or two inch piece of extra leather and sister the two broken ends together. That way it remains all together. Good luck trying to find a mint green buckle strap regardless.

Nice helmet!

The real gem is the early, double stamped IMP liner with unpainted A-Washers; I honestly maybe seen 2 or 3 in all my collecting years.

Great helmet, always nice eye candy to see a completely unissued helmet. Maybe I’ll send a picture of mine haha.

its always striking to me how much more green those real fresh ones look. almost as if ya went back in time, and stole it from their footlocker. nothin fishy as far as color on yours i see, a real nice one for sure

Howdy.  It’s not brightness, it’s shade.  If you look at the one Shadawg posted, it’s a darker shade of green.  Again, it could be camera.

Another unissued for shade comparison ... I agree colors off a bit but can’t see any weirdness with the helmet. Hmm. Maybe an odd storage effect 🤷‍♂️

Here are my unissued helmets.

I think it’s just a manufacturing difference.

In my picture is from left to right are the M1917A1, early fixed bail M1, mid-war fixed bail M1, and late war FSSB M1.

Note how the earlier helmets have a lighter shade compared to the later produced helmets.

Not only that, but the oldest M1s are getting about 80 years old now. There can be many factors that cause original paint to change in that timespan.

I'll play. Technically not unissued, as both the shell and liner have the original owners last name penciled into them but almost entirely unused.

Has some storage wear and tear, particularly in the liner interior. Chinstrap was added by me.

Sweet liner :). This McCord shell appears darkened over time which I’m more used to seeing than OPs. nice set.

Unissued helmets have unique colors that change with even minor wear and use. Nothing wrong with the original helmet posted.
