johnny12550 Posted April 23, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 23, 2021 Hi, What do you guys think of this medal and engraving. The current person selling it got it off a guy on Ebay, so you might have seen it before. Named to QM3C M.B. Stratton. If it is good I would appreciate any info on approximate value. He is not giving it away and asking $1300. Thanks
johnny12550 Posted April 23, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted April 23, 2021 Price seems a bit high to me, but don’t really know the rarity of an item like this
KurtA Posted April 24, 2021 Share #3 Posted April 24, 2021 The medal is original and the engraving looks fine for a Phase II Sampson. However, it could be an "error" medal in that Stratton's first name was William, not M.B. Interesting that the medal recipient immediately above him in the roster compiled by Al Gleim is M.B. Snow. Could be the engraver was at the end of his shift. Or, Al Gleim made a mistake in typing the roll in his Sampson Medal book. Doing an ancestry check on both names might confirm. A Yosemite Sampson is normally a $1000 medal.
johnny12550 Posted April 24, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted April 24, 2021 Hi, KurtA Thanks for the info. Actually the medal is engraved to William B Stratton. If you look at the pics it is engraved WM. B. STRATTON. I thought it was a bit high in price. I was closer to your estimate, I was thinking like $
