FlyNavy02 Posted April 21, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 21, 2021 Below are images of a relic US oval belt buckle stamped "RUSSELL / WYOMING / 1909" There are also two "test" stampings of the number "9" to the left of the arrowhead hooks. I interpret the inscription to mean it was found at Fort D.A. Russell, Wyoming in 1909. The fort was constructed near Cheyenne by members of the 30th U.S. Infantry Regiment in 1867 as a frontier post for infantry and cavalry protecting transcontinental railroad workers. It was renamed Fort Francis E. Warren in 1930 and Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in 1948. If it was found by a Soldier, he may have used a stamping kit to mark the buckle. Thoughts anyone?
