Thrifter_01 Posted April 21, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 21, 2021 I was very much pleased to be able to find this beautiful helmet at one of the thrift stores I visit often. I will say up front that I don't know very much about the m1 helmets, just enough to know how to ID that this one was a rear seam swivel bail, but seems to be smaller than one. But if anyone has anything to add about this helmet, I am all ears. With that, I do know the helmet has ben painted over the original green color, first with an orange color, before being painted one final time with the gray that is pictured. I do believe the 'XO' is meant to mean the Executive Officer on a ship and was sprayed on. There is also a heat lot number on it stamped '1 0235. For the liner, it is dated to the 21 July 1967, is stamped as a Type 1, and was made by Firestorm, with a 30 next to it.
MattS Posted April 21, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 21, 2021 Very nice! Looks correct for the USN in the 1960s. The heat stamp sounds like Ingersoll, "Ingersoll (1966-1968) markings have a "1" in front ie "1-1234"" see post #10:
Paddyd00 Posted April 22, 2021 Share #3 Posted April 22, 2021 Cool man. Nice representation of the Navy during this period. Good lid. Z
