wwfern Posted April 21, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 21, 2021 I just acquired this holster and was curious about the markings. It is stamped as a Boyt M.S.. The placement is on the lower right of the belt slit section. The examples that I could find were similar font style but much thicker and deeply struck. Do the stampings on my holster seem legit or added later?
Charlie Flick Posted April 26, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2021 Fern: Welcome to the Forum. Your holster is a legitimate example of the M1916 that was produced for WW1. Hope that helps you. Regards, Charlie
wwfern Posted April 27, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted April 27, 2021 Thank you for your answer. Do you know of any instances of ww1 holsters having steel hangers or do you think it’s more than likely a replacement sometime in its long life?
Charlie Flick Posted April 28, 2021 Share #4 Posted April 28, 2021 I am not aware of the use of steel M1910 type hangers on USGI M1916 holsters made during WW1. Thus, it would seem likely that your example has a replacement hanger. Close examination of the leather piece surrounding the hanger often reveals unusual wear patterns or markings indicative of a replacement. wwfern Posted May 2, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted May 2, 2021 I didn't see anything out of the ordinary about the leather, but the hanger seems to me a little out of shape when compared to other hangers I have. Thank you for your help.
