For starters, any helmet on eBay that claims to be from the 506th PIR needs to be treated with extreme skepticism. Three problems with this one:

1) Painted emblems are too big

2) The ends of the "D" bales on the originals are more uniform than on this example

3) Original M2s have small dimples on the rim in the middle of the bales. This apparently a result of the way the bales were attached during the manufacturing process.

Keep looking!

I should have made it clear that I'm posting this out of extreme sarcasm. There's no way in hell this is a real 506th M2.

I don't get it. What's wrong with it?

The bales are stainless steel and the feet are too long and narrow, to begin with.

To add, I am 100% positive that this is not a real 506th M2.

As has been stated before, countless times on this forum, that if it had been a real 506th M2 (an officer at that), it would not be for sale on ebay and certainly not at that price. A helmet of that nature would be well in the tens of thousands and most likely through a private sale.

This is just another example of the rubbish being sold on ebay. Could be an unscrupulous seller, could be that they are ignorant to what they truly have.

Again, the timing is not coincidental. People are burning through stimmy checks and tax refunds faster than you can believe.

My rule of thumb is ANY 506TH PIR helmet on eBay is fake. I'm sure others feel the same way.

As a rule of thumb I stay away from anything on Ebay that is claiming the likes of Airborne, Pearl Harbor, Midway, and the like. It’s just too household name and suspect to me.

I was joking. You know that, right? lol

Hi dmar835, I thought you might be joking, but wasn't sure. Beginner collectors and non-headgear specialists sometimes need help getting through the learning curve on these things.

Burning Hazard

Are my playing tricks or is that not even a US made shell? Looks like an Euroclone shape that had seam cut in the front?? The shape looks off and those D-Bails are bad repros.

Well I’m gonna buy it. And when everyone is knocking down my door for a look at my new original ... I will be charging $20 a pop and will have the last laugh.

LOL. These helmets are the easy ones to spot. It’s the more sinister fakes that grind my gears.

Description for reference :

WW2 USA M2 Front Seam 'D' bail Paratrooper 101st Airborne Helmet 506th Easy Coy. (Shell only)

As worn during D day.

Helmet was purchased from a dealer in Carentan France during the anniversary of D day a few years ago.

Helmet hasn’t a chin strap or liner both easily obtained on eBay. Didn’t bother me looks well on a helmet stand as it is.

The shell is a genuine WW2 It is a front seam, stainless rim fixed D bales with original paintwork.

Which consists of 506th 'Spades', ETO stripes markings and Officer rank.

This helmet is a superb 506th PIR Helmet and would look great in any collection.

what a cracker !!!
