dcollector Posted April 19, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2021 Hi Guys, I was sniffing around the flea markets here in Georgia this morning. Amongst the chickens and farm implements for sale I found a job lot of WW2 magazines and some knives. (There were probably 15-20 threadbare Kabars and RH36's all sharpened until they looked like skinning knives and dried leather, you know the sort.) the two M4 bayonets are near mint: 1. Mint US M4 Camillus WD scabbard 2. Almost mint US M4 Camillus PWH scabbard 3. Double edged fighter in BMCO scabbard The double edged fighter is the reason I'm dropping by today, does anyone know anything more about this style. The three on Ebay are silly money and only one of them is marked case. There are no markings on this one at all. Anyway, if anyone knows much more about this style please share with me. Does it belong in the same knife rack as my V42 or is it an Ebay special?
nifman Posted April 19, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 19, 2021 A picture of the top of the pommel might help. Dennis aka nifman
doyler Posted April 19, 2021 Share #3 Posted April 19, 2021 Looks like an unmarked Case to me. Have one in a leather scabbard.

dcollector Posted April 19, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted April 19, 2021 Here are pictures of the two M4's in case any of you guys know about these, I do not, and would love to get a little more info. on these. The first picture is of a little Camillus paratrooper switchblade, probably from the 1970's The second pic is of the M4 which has a layer of dirt/age build up which will wipe off on it, the third M4 is super clean. Both are marked Camillus - and look basically unissued.
Misfit 45 Posted April 19, 2021 Share #6 Posted April 19, 2021 The orange aircrew knife is from the Vietnam era. Unfortunately, the M4 is a reproduction from the 1990s. made by Camillus. It is made to look like the 1953 contract M4 that Camillus had, but they gave us a few clues to identify the reproduction. In this case it is the "M" on the the cross guard. The pommel end is also different. It has a smooth peen rather than a starburt peen. Marv

Marv Thanks man, I had my suspicions - well, it's good to have the pictures here on this forum, so others can learn, as I did :) This whole lot was worth one of the nicer P38 magazines, so I'm not really concerned, I'll just put the two M4's up in penny auctions and see where they go. Thank you for the useful information though !
capt14k Posted April 19, 2021 Share #8 Posted April 19, 2021 Thought I recalled reading the unmarked double edge daggers were assembled post war from leftover parts and sold in hardware stores. I could be mistaken. Definitely looks like a Case dagger.Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
mikedon Posted April 19, 2021 Share #9 Posted April 19, 2021 It looks like the 2 M4's might have the wider guard like the 1953 contact Camillus M4's. I believe the 2 M4's are modern, not 1953 contract. Picture of pommel would help. Bottom Camillus M4 in picture is modern, (look at shape of "M" in "CAMILLUS"). jeremy69 Posted April 19, 2021 Share #11 Posted April 19, 2021 The Case is know as a “Case Stiletto”. They were made like yours in an unmarked version often found “bright” and a Case marked version often blued. The eBay knives have been up for a while and not selling so value is something less than what they are listed. I have been looking for years for an upgrade on my Case marked blue blade without luck. If you have been looking for years then you would know the values, so, I appreciate the heads up. It's a nice "worn-in" fighting knife, I will keep it. The M4's will go to other homes. Blacksmith - thanks man, it's fun finding nice things for cheap. Mikedon - Thanks for posting the comparison, yes, it would appear that these two are recent reproductions, they're very well made and in original scabbards, so might be good place holders for a novice collector. Capt14k - Interesting, there certainly was a lot of rebuilding and remarking and scrubbing that went on post war to capitalize on parts left over.
