MattS Posted April 14, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 14, 2021 You made this? Impressive! I had to settle for this $25 repro as I have no knife making skills.
dmar836 Posted April 14, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted April 14, 2021 Thanks. Mine actually works without helping it along. I bought one of those first just to see what it was like inside. Needless to say, it has very little in common internally with a Schrade. I was going to reassemble it and sell it or add bone scales to make it look cooler but I really just don't care to spend time putting lipstick on a pig. I think I used 1095 or 1084 for the blade and heat treated it in a modified BBQ grill(forced air). Used 4130 for the sides and internal mech. Brass pins and nickle silver for the bolsters and main pivot pin. There's a brass bushing in the pivot(used a lathe for that). Studied old patent drawings and scaled from photos for the proportions and locations of the features. Probably $20 in parts but $1000 in labor! Every day is a school day!
