Pryo Posted April 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 13, 2021 I apologize in advance for the amount of pictures but I hope you guys get a kick out of them. I picked this up a while back and it’s much larger than the photos so I’m not sure I’ll ever get around to posting most of it. The Manitowoc ship building company was founded in 1902. The estate was from the owner who had the various businesses passed down to him. There were two main parts the ship building company and the construction/speed crane company which is another 2 boxes of photographs. During WWII they built 28 submarines. Some of which include the USS Peto, Puffer, Redfin, Raton, and uss pompon. They put out monthly newsletters that are shown below. Part of their crane business was also involved in the salvage operation at Pearl Harbor. Feel free to ask any questions I’ll do my best to answer them

Mr.Jerry Posted April 13, 2021 Share #3 Posted April 13, 2021 Very nice to see such a large group of stuff from part of Wisconsin's contribution to the war effort!
MattS Posted April 13, 2021 Share #4 Posted April 13, 2021 There's a great museum there, and if you time it right, the SS Badger will be in port filling the coal bunkers.
Pryo Posted April 13, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted April 13, 2021 I'm at work now, but there are about 20-30 different Keel block issues that I can post, if anyone is interested, I just picked out a few from the binder book I made out of it. Its very surprising to me to see some of the detail in the photos that came with it. They had a very good quality camera for the time, two of the photos are from the 1800s
Kurt Barickman Posted April 13, 2021 Share #6 Posted April 13, 2021 Yes Manitowoc is an interesting town as I visited there a few years ago to see a classic rock band at an old restored theater downtown. Then visited the WWII submarine museum there and it is very well done if you have interest in the WWII submarine war. I believe they had some uniforms and a KIA Purple Heart and documents there too. Thanks for posting those period photos and paperwork. Kurt
Josh B. Posted April 15, 2021 Share #7 Posted April 15, 2021 Nice group of archival materials there. The Keel Block issues look like an interesting read.
USARV72 Posted April 15, 2021 Share #8 Posted April 15, 2021 Many years ago talking to WWII Navy Veterans they All said vessels built in Wi. were the best, period. The “ Bubbleheads” really praised the Subs, said they had none to little issues with them on shakedown.
