BeansEnHay Posted April 10, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 10, 2021 I am researching a guy who finished the war as a Chief Torpedoman's Mate. In the Navy Support log his rate is identified as CTMV. What does the V stand for. He is in the Ordnance department, so I am thinking it is some kind of specialty identifier, but don't know. If anyone knows or knows where to look, I would surely appreciate it. Rob
Salvage Sailor Posted April 11, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 11, 2021 Aviation Branch (V) Chief Torpedoman's Mate V CTMV Torpedoman's Mate V was established as an Aviation Branch rating in all grades in October 1943. The rating badge was a left-arm version of the Seaman Branch Torpedoman's Mate.
BeansEnHay Posted April 11, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted April 11, 2021 Makes sense. He was at Alameda NAS. They would have had a bunch of them. Mahalo Rob
