McDermut99 Posted April 10, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 10, 2021 Picked this security police badge pretty cheap recently out of a junk drawer recently. The thing that caught my eye was the leather hanger, dyed black and mounted I assume on the wearer's right breast pocket. The badge's serial is C9773 and is marked GOV'T PROPERTY, which I've heard can help date it. It also has GI and a diamond maker marking towards the top. The badge is in pretty good shape, as is the leather. I'm curious about if the leather hanger help date the badge to a particular era? And does the hanger increase the value of the badge any? They're typically selling for between $15 and $50+, condition seeming to be the biggest factor in values. Comments are always greatly appreciated! Brian Keith Posted April 10, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 10, 2021 According to Police Badges and Shields of the United States Air Force, By Chris Armold, this badge is the 1st Generation Security Police (name change from Air Police) used from 1966 to 1977. I may add they were probably used later than that as few things have a drop dead date and the face of the badge did not change in 1977. I personally like to accessorize things in my collection, so the leather hanger is a bonus. If anyone has an interest in Air Force badges, that book is a must have. Yes, it is written by the same Chris Armold of Steel Pots and Painted Steel fame. With the makers mark a diamond with an "F" inside it was made by Williams and Anderson Company.
