jmpmstr Posted April 10, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 10, 2021 John Patrick Emoe was born in Ireland 1872. He served in the US Navy as John Emoe, enlisted in 1893 and retired in 1922. He served aboard the USS Massachusetts, Brooklyn, and Vermont with service in the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, and China Relief Expedition. This amazing group is custom bar mounted and housed in a beautiful custom case. The Sampson is mounted to the bar via the top ship bar with a neat cutout for the GCM ribbon to slide through. Expertly re-ribboned by Adam Rohloff using the original suspension ribbons as they were detached from the bar.
Allan H. Posted April 10, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 10, 2021 I am almost speechless! What a stunner! To find all of these medals to one guy is rare enough, but you have them mounted on a bar?!?!? Words fail me. WELL DONE> Allan
Allan H. Posted April 10, 2021 Share #3 Posted April 10, 2021 Just realized the ship's bar is a Buffalo. The grouping has found a great home in Buffalo! Allan

MMcollector Posted April 10, 2021 Share #6 Posted April 10, 2021 That’s a fantastic group and Adam did a great job re-attaching the ribbon drapes. Kudos to you both. Thanks for sharing.
jmpmstr Posted April 10, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted April 10, 2021 Thank you all. The nearest thing about the custom case is that while the metals are not symmetrical on the bottom the case is designed to fit them in the recessed compartment exactly to the length where they hang off of the bar. Many thanks to Adam and Barry for their work on this one.
aerialbridge Posted April 10, 2021 Share #8 Posted April 10, 2021 Using the original ribbons after they were completely detached= an amazing feat. Beautiful group, a sailor that stayed on Brooklyn for a couple years after Santiago de Cuba could tag all those bases, but seeing the Mass Sampson with all those is not common, as in he transferred ships. That custom made original case is something. A recent acquisition or you just had it resewn?
jmpmstr Posted April 10, 2021 Author Share #9 Posted April 10, 2021 Recent acquisition I’ve been working on with the seller. He teamed with Adam for the restoration and research. I’m just the lucky caretaker as of last weekend.

jmpmstr Posted April 13, 2021 Author Share #14 Posted April 13, 2021 Thank you all for your kind commentary. I'm the lucky recipient of a great grouping that other people did the heavy lifting on, I was in right place right time. It is, although, another example of the benefit of relationships in this community of ours. The people involved in this acquisition are very well known and respected, coupled with some very knowledgeable and close collector friends willing to give opinion and guidance, the end result is a marvelous historical and beautiful snapshot of a remarkable naval career. I'm grateful the benefits of this site, the community, and our collectors emeritus shone down on me for this one.

Thanks Brian...that case is really what sold me on the group. I would have gone for it regardless, but that case makes it "specialerer" IMO
