ScottG Posted April 9, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 9, 2021 Today we traveled to a Michigan VFW Post and rescued this fantastic set. While they do need the proper wheels and paint they are in amazing condition for being outside in Northern Michigan for 40+ years. We will begin the restoration later this Summer/Fall and hopefully get them together with a 3" gun and some horses for some photo's. Scott
Backtheattack Posted April 9, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 9, 2021 Very good condition for standing outside all the time. Seems someone had an eye on it.

Thanks and yes the VFW did paint and try to maintain them but as you can see, they totally changed the wheels and axles and they used the wrong colors as well. Backtheattack Posted April 16, 2021 Share #4 Posted April 16, 2021 Scott, that`s right. But they did something. Since the US army closed some of their barracks here a lot of vehicles, once standing there as monument, where now at assembly points with no work on them. A friend of mine told me about such a point where the vehicles stay outside, rusting, but now way to buy one. And I know some museums with former DDR planes who rot outside, a museum not far away from my home bought some in 1990 in good condition, together with some trucks, and now after 30 years without any care they are only scrap metal. ScottG Posted July 11, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted July 11, 2023 Some long overdue updates on these pieces. Both have been sandblasted, primed and painted. The ammo cart needed much of the bottom replaced so new steel was cut and welded into place. Next up will be the wheels which will go out to a local wheel shop/collector next month for rebuild. As you can see we have many wheels so the 4 best will be done. All of the hubs have been sandblasted and primed and we are just waiting for our wheel guy to heal up from surgery.
