I got this helmet off Facebook Market Place and its odd. It’s a swivel loop rear seam and I can not read the heat stamp. It has a early J hook on one side and later parts on the other and both straps are different, possibly a field repair from extra parts. I can not make out the paint on the side and it spots it looks old.

Burning Hazard

Nice helmet! I wonder what the white markings on the side used to be?

Also, not uncommon to see mixed chinstrap hardware as all wartime stocks were used up; I once owned and original fixed bail with steel hook and early raised brass buckle.

Please don't try to sand down the original paint to uncover a heat lot number. The OD#3 straps attached to swivels date it to 1944/45.
