644td Posted April 9, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 9, 2021 I got this helmet off Facebook Market Place and its odd. It’s a swivel loop rear seam and I can not read the heat stamp. It has a early J hook on one side and later parts on the other and both straps are different, possibly a field repair from extra parts. I can not make out the paint on the side and it spots it looks old.
Burning Hazard Posted April 9, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 9, 2021 Nice helmet! I wonder what the white markings on the side used to be? Also, not uncommon to see mixed chinstrap hardware as all wartime stocks were used up; I once owned and original fixed bail with steel hook and early raised brass buckle. MattS Posted April 9, 2021 Share #4 Posted April 9, 2021 Please don't try to sand down the original paint to uncover a heat lot number. The OD#3 straps attached to swivels date it to 1944/45.
MattS Posted April 11, 2021 Share #5 Posted April 11, 2021 This didn’t stay around long, saw it sell on the sale page pretty quickly.
