Salvage Sailor Posted June 20, 2023 #77 Posted June 20, 2023 Just for fun... Yardlong Detail, 19th Infantry Schofield Barracks 1930's
kiaiokalewa Posted September 19, 2023 #78 Posted September 19, 2023 Some real rarities in the batch of athletics Some real rarities in the batch of athletics. In the collection is a G.O. memorandum poster illustrating a 27th Inf Regt athletic patch that authorized the official local use of such patches. I found it on Ebay probably 25 maybe getting even close to 30 years ago. I'll post it when I pull it out and take a pic of it.

This example is 1000% authentic. Tough to determine from only the front as this appears just like the many, many reproduction out there. The addition of the dual chain stitch bobbin thread backing seals the deal here. Out of 10 bids I was number 9. The OQMG spefication on the diameter of this short lived series is rather small and if I can recall correctly is at 2 7/8" making it one of the smaller shoulder insignia of the era. I wonder how long the 35th Division rocked their unit specific patches after WWI. Here we have an excellent 139th Infantry Regiment patch that was undoubtedly made around the same time frame as the 95th Division's series. And perhaps by the same a regional manufacturer. The chainstitched pick-up bobin thread isn't commonly found on interwar period made patches but I've seen several in the 35th Division's realm.

Would love to get my grubby hands on one of these. XI and XII Corps uniforms in the collection. Close up on the XI Corps patch. Nearly 30 plus years passed before this one flew into the coop. The XIII Corps, had jurisdiction over Organized Reserve unit within Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
kiaiokalewa Posted January 5, 2024 #83 Posted January 5, 2024 Four of the seven, Type VI, First Cavalry Division patches in the original series of nineteen. The Blue Print CE 5-2-10 (Jan 20, 1923), table of contents list these four patch from top left to right as items 3 & 6, bottom left to right 9 & 4.
kiaiokalewa Posted April 26, 2024 #84 Posted April 26, 2024 A nice gathering of the 98th Reserve Division Shoulder Insignia. The 82nd has me stumped. Its hand embroidered silk on linen. Could it be French WWI or WWII tailormade, Pre-WWII CONUS tailormade, Post WWII Japanese Artisan made or something else completely. I forgot which regiment the gopher represented but 35 years ago when I found it (at a San Diego ASMIC Convention) the 42nd Division patch was over it (like shown) in one of them tiny raker mounts. Oh, and yes, that tiny case = nice price tag too, as I remembered it.

Scarecrow Posted December 5, 2024 #86 Posted December 5, 2024 Here a 3rd Cavalry Division SSI on an Officer's 1930's service jacket that, I recently acquired. The 3rd Cavalry Division was largely a "paper" formation existing only from 1927 to 1940. Its units never assembled in a single location or conducted large scale training.
Page-Hendryx Posted December 8, 2024 #87 Posted December 8, 2024 This is my 3d Cav Div coat (M1926 with belt hooks). The PQD tag is dated April 1929. - MPage
Page-Hendryx Posted December 8, 2024 #88 Posted December 8, 2024 I wanted also to point out that all-felt 2nd Cav Div patches were worn. The one on the left is felt (shown next to the typical all-melton wool type). This felt patch was worn by a soldier in the 3d FAB (horse-drawn) circa 1941. - MPage
