USMC DET-1 MCSOCOM ELCS GEAR

Hello everyone! Today I’d like to share some pictures of my very rare MCSOCOM DET-1 ELCS gear.

DET-1 was the precursor for what is now MARSOC. They operated as a proof of concept unit for the Marines working along SOCOM from 2003-2006.

From what I’ve read there we’re originally 86 personnel in DET-1(81 Marines and 5 Navy Corpsman) but I believe there was something like 150 or 200 personnel total in DET-1? It’s hard to say with contradicting information how many personnel were with DET-1. Because of the small number of Marines that served with DET-1, finding this gear is very difficult. All the gear was produced by Allied Industries, Eagle industries, CSM, and some commercial items aswell. The SOP for DET-1 was to mark their gear with their individual number. These markings were unique to DET-1 and we’re usually made with either a stencil or sharpie as you can see in the pictures below. If you ever find some oldgen black buckle gear with numbers stenciled or sharpied like so, it’s safe to assume it’s DET-1 used.
 

 

I have a good amount of pictures of the Marines from DET-1 but I’ve never been able to find the marines associated with the numbers on the gear I own. Obtaining pictures of DET-1 has proven to be very difficult as not many pictures are public and some former members don’t share very much information whether that be because of privacy or other reasons. Despite this, I’ve managed to find about 62 pictures of the DET-1 operators during their training in Nevada and their deployment in Iraq. If anybody has unique DET-1 pictures or could help me ID who used some of my gear,  it would greatly appreciated!

I don't think many of our members understand how incredibly rare this gear is.  I appreciate you taking time to share this with us and educating us about some very rare items.

Thank you for the kind words Nkomo. I really enjoy collecting this stuff so It makes me happy that anyone would enjoy this post (: it’s also understandable that not many fellow members would know about this stuff since it’s a lot more modern and out of the collecting area for most.

Yes, there are many “modern” and incredibly rare items that get little if any commentary here at USMF. That’s just how it goes sometimes. But believe me, that’s a great set you have and I totally  appreciate you posting it up for us. Very cool, and gives me something else to watch out for!

Thank you Longbranch, it makes me happy that you guys enjoyed what I had to share!  Here’s a picture of how currently have it setup on display. Setup is inspired by Msgt Andre Bosier in 2004. I’m still missing some items like the crkt hissatsu, whip antenna, shotgun, suunto vortex watch, m4 sling attachment, and that mystery flash bang holder on his leg panel.

This is really cool and I learned more today about DET-1 than I previously knew. I also happen to have 1 pouch from DET-1 I thought it was an older MLCS black buckle pouch until I read about the stencil. It’s stenciled with a 96. I have so many questions and also would like to see these photos you have.
