Tdanks Posted April 2, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2021 I just received a K98 that has some minor rust and looks like it has gun oil on it. Is it possible to use gun oil to help remove the rust then coat it with wax. I am wondering if I wiped as much fun oil off as I can of it would be ok to put a coat of wax on it. Blacksmith Posted April 2, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2021 Plenty of topics on Renaissance Wax vs oil on the forum, if you use the search.

doyler Posted April 4, 2021 Share #6 Posted April 4, 2021 as stated to remove or "degrease" the rifle you need to get the old oil off if you want the ren wax to stick. I would take the action out of the stock. Remove the rust with a non abbrasive method with kroil or a bit of house hold oil/ 3 in 1 oil etc and a big 45 scrub pad. They are made to not scratch blue or metal but I still use a light oil. Then degrease with any laquer thinner, acetone or brake cleaner etc. Then use a ren wax or any good silicone gun wipe protectant.
