Hello

Today I got this beauty, it is the first one for me in my collection. I noticed the number, can it be dated using the number or is it a link to the recipient?

Many thanks for any answer

Unfortunately, this one is untraceable with this number.

Nice medal though!

Thats a pitty, but is there something to say about the date?

These numbered Purple Hearts are all WWII vintage unless you have one of the pre-war contract pieces from Bailey, Banks, and Biddle. The number on those will be less than 70,000. The War Department stopped requiring that medals be numbered during WWII, so you will find un-numbered examples issued during the war as well.

There are some great threads here on the forum regarding numbered Purple Hearts and the companies that manufactured specific number blocks. A little bit of searching will give you plenty to read.
