wk4045 Posted March 26, 2021 #1 Posted March 26, 2021 Hello. Could you help me to find o formation about this colonel rank badge? It seems to be WW2 clutch back. I am very surprised by the quality and the details but also by the shape of the eagle ´ sheaf (looks WW2 German eagle !). Thank you
Dave Posted March 26, 2021 #2 Posted March 26, 2021 Is it really gold in color? If so, it would be more related to a police or fire rank rather than a military rank. Also, it seems that there is a pin behind the insignia? Is that just something holding it up or is it pinback?
wk4045 Posted March 26, 2021 Author #3 Posted March 26, 2021 Indeed pin back not clutch back and silver not gold
Allan H. Posted March 26, 2021 #4 Posted March 26, 2021 This pattern of eagle was made by Meyer and is marked "Shold-R-Form" on the back. Sometimes they are also sterling marked, but this piece does not appear to be made out of silver. They do date to the WWII era, but were worn well into the 1960's. Allan
wk4045 Posted March 26, 2021 Author #5 Posted March 26, 2021 Thanks Allan. Shold -R-form were made for USMC use only or not ?
Allan H. Posted March 26, 2021 #6 Posted March 26, 2021 I have only ever encountered these in army groups, but I don't know if perhaps Marine colonels could have worn them also? Allan
