US Army WW2 in Normandy -- What Piece of Artilleryman's Gear Is This?

Looking at some more archival footage I came across this interesting piece of gear. Looks like some sort of large pouch or something across the waist of the artilleryman second from the left at 0:23. Looks to be mounted on a pistol belt as there is a canteen also clearly hanging from his waist as well. Any idea what piece of gear this is?

I believe it is actually this bag right here and not the lightweight gas mask. I think this is some sort of experimental gear of some sort. I pulled it off of the pinned grenade pouch thread.
