tigerfan Posted March 21, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2021 Found today at a local flea market is this Southern Cross of Honor to a member of Co. E 14th Virginia Infantry. Private Philo Allcott Co "E" 14th Virginia Infantry. He was a 22 year old teacher at the time of his enlistment on May 12th 1861. Private Allcott took part in the following battles. Oak Grove, Mechanicsville, Gaine's Mill, Garnett's Farm, Savage's Station, and White Oak Swamp, before being wounded at Malvern Hill. He returned to his unit to see action in the second battle of Manassas before getting ill and leaving the field till his return in November of 1862. He then saw action at Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and Proctors Creek, before he took Ill with dysentery. Allcott returned to action on June 20th 1864 and was captured 10 days later in Petersburg Virginia and spent the rest of his War as a P.O.W till he was exchanged March 16th 1865.
