tigerfan Posted March 18, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2021 USN Lot to Captain James M. Lane. Cpt. Lane had an interesting naval career serving aboard several ships including the USS HULBERT (where he was the CO) and USS LEXINGTON (where he was navigator and later XO). The HULBERT was a sea plane tender and credited with a "kill" at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. The brass desk name plate is interesting as one side appears to be in Chinese. The other metal object is a large napkin holder.
KASTAUFFER Posted March 18, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2021 Nice group Roger. How low is the number on the Yangtze? Kurt
KASTAUFFER Posted December 4, 2021 Share #3 Posted December 4, 2021 I just bought this group in auction. I did some interesting research regarding the Yangtze Service medal. It is # 11746 which is a high number. There is precedence for this however. I have a group to a Pearl Harbor survivor who lost his medals on the USS West Virginia due to the attack. In 1949 he received a replacement Yangtze , Mno 12593. This number is not far of from Capt Lanes's. My guess is this is a post war replacement for a medal he lost during WWII. This group was originally sold in Gleim Auction 22 in 1989. He noted the medal number in the listing. Kurt
