shadawg Posted March 18, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2021 please forgive me if I'm kinda a newbie on these, it's only my third, but my first camo m1917 helmet, plus I'm an M1 boy, lol. I couldn't resist the price, and had been wanting a nice one for a while. it is a British made example. seems to have a coarse texture, sand I believe, with very nice crazing in the paint. I had tried scouring the painted ww1 helmet reference for help on the insignia, but couldn't find one with it, however, I know I have seen the white circle before, but I'm having difficulty tracking it down again, and I think before, had found it by accident a while ago. Any information would be much appreciated. I absolutely adore this thing, and am glad to have basically just kinda ran in to one regardless
aef1917 Posted March 18, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2021 What is a "p17"? My best guess would be 319th Infantry Regiment, though the circle looks more gray than white to me..

shadawg Posted March 18, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted March 18, 2021 had the opportunity today to run out and get some daylight pics. it shows the colors more accurately, however still hard to tell if the circle was always a gray color, or if it has just been subdued from age

suwanneetrader Posted March 19, 2021 Share #8 Posted March 19, 2021 I've had a 1917 Camo with a gold circle on the front was posted and discussed on here quite a few years ago with nothing concrete regarding it. Here is a couple of pics again. Had some white paint splashed on it when poorly stored. Richard

Richard hey thank you, i'm glad you shared this. strangely enough, i ran across your post from 2017 and saw your helmet, i was gonna link it, but am glad you chimed in. i saw this picture from the same thread, and was wondering if there was potential. it seems the reasoning behind them is as inconclusive as the extensive use on camouflage itself. im still not really sure if mine was white, or more of a silver gray
